Dartmoor, a vast national park, is a walker's paradise. Its imposing granite Tors and the wooded valleys that border it have been the inspiration for many an author.
By way of contrast the gentler country along the South Coast is host to the idyllic yachting havens of Dartmouth and Salcombe. The high-class resort of Torquay has attracted visitors from all over the world and offers a very wide range of attractions. The wilder less developed North Coast has become a surfer's paradise and is an increasingly popular holiday destination. Devon is a county of hidden lanes and villages. The fact that so many return again and again is a testament to its diversity and holiday appeal.
